New cycle routes in Torquay

Torquay attracts millions of visitors every year all wanting to take advantage of the English Riviera. Cyclists, however, whether tourists or home grown, have had a poor experience – up to now, that is.
Torbay Council’s transport working party has approved new cycle routes linking the harbour, the town centre, the railway station and the hospital. A link along the seafront will also connect the hospital and railway station to Paignton, which is further along the coast.
New on and off-highway routes have also been agreed in principle to a number of other areas throughout the town that will give cyclists a better and safer access to them.
These moves have been welcomed by many people including Ken Robertson, the former chairman of the Mid Devon Cycling Club who has spent more than 60 years cycling throughout the South West.
Twenty years ago, there weren’t any cycle routes at all in Torquay, so this is excellent news for visitors and locals.
